Family Issues: Stay Close to Distant & Traveling Family

Many of us have extended families that do not live nearby but with today’s technology, we can easily stay in touch and remain close. We can find great cell phone plans with lots of “any time” minutes or free nights and weekends, we can choose long distance plans for home phones that cover particular areas that we call most often. We can send an e-mail or an e-card, create an online newsletter, and of course, we can still write an old-fashioned letter if we get the urge.

We can also make recordings and videos to send so family members have something else tangible to hold onto, which they can listen to or view when missing the ones they love. It’s also fun to exchange these items, so you can hear or see those you miss.

With digital cameras, we can snap as many photos as we like. We can put them on CDs instead of worrying about developing and storing negatives and photos. With all of these great ideas and more, we can stay in touch and stay closer more easily than ever before.

Another option is to have your family members join Families.com and have them use the “My Site” feature to add digital photos and other details. Link your sites together by adding each other. Share pictures and special moments, and add new items often.

This is also a great resource for families who have one member who travels often. Children can upload new pictures and happenings to keep the traveling parent updated, and kids away at college can keep Mom, Dad, and younger siblings in the loop.

Isn’t technology great?
