iPod Shuffle: Now in Color

Later week Apple announced that they would now be offering their popular iPod Shuffle in colors.

Now where there was once only silver you can get pink, orange, green, and blue. I’m on Apple’s PR mailing list so I actually got a press release for these in my inbox the morning they came out. Although I am a pretty big Apple dork my initial reaction to the release was “Big deal.” With the color change comes no more functionality, not more features.it’s the same old iPod Shuffle, except now it’s brightly colored.

Just this past week I was reading an article in one of the magazines I subscribe to about the shuffle. Someone had written in, upset that the magazine had recommended the shuffle as an mp3 player when then Nano is only slightly more expensive. The magazine defended their choice saying that the shuffle is designed to be a second mp3 player for people on the go or who are exercising who don’t want to carry around their huge iPod video or even their Nano.

I wonder how accurate that statement is. I had one of the older Shuffle’s for a while. When I had that Nano it was in addition to my regular iPod. After I received a Nano as a gift, and then decided to sell my shuffle. I never really liked that you couldn’t select songs on the shuffle; it just didn’t make any sense to me.

iPod shuffles clip onto your clothing, bags, necklaces etc an weigh about half an ounce. A shuffle can hold around 240 different songs and can has a battery life of up to 12 hours.

How many of you have an iPod Shuffle? Do you use it as your only iPod or is it a second iPod for you? What do you think of the new colored iPod shuffles?
