Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

There is something about a good and hearty biscuit topped with creamy sausage gravy that gets me going in the morning. I am sharing a recipe that my grandmother used to make for us, and that I now make for my family.

My grandmother was from Texas and most of her recipes were hearty and southern in nature. I enjoy making Biscuits and Sausage Gravy on a weekend when I can spend the time to make it right, and then savor it with a cup of good coffee. The preparation is easy and the total cooking time is very little. This recipe quickly turned in to a family favorite at my house, and I hope it’ll soon become a favorite at your house as well.

To serve this dish, I sometimes offer it with bacon on the side or along side scrambled eggs with hash browns, but it is just as satisfying on its own. Treat yourself to this comforting breakfast and I guarantee you your family will ask for a second helping!

To Prepare This Recipe You Will Need The Following Ingredients:

To Make The Biscuits:

2 ½ cup Original Bisquick Mix

2/3 cup milk

3 TB melted butter

½ cup sour cream

To Make The Sausage Gravy:

1 lb Jimmy Dean brand Sage Sausage

2 ½ cups whole milk

½ cup white flour

1 tsp black pepper

To Prepare This Recipe:

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

Prepare the biscuits first. Add all biscuit ingredients and mix. Be careful not to overwork the dough as it can get tough and dry. Once all of the ingredients are mixed, drop the dough by spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

To prepare the gravy, place the sausage in a skillet and brown. As the sausage is browning sprinkle it with flour and continue to brown. When the sausage is cooked through add milk and heat. Add remaining flour and pepper, whisking to break up any flour bits that may form, and continue to cook until thickened.

To serve, place sausage over an open faced, cooked biscuit and enjoy.
