Do You Have a Routine?

When my children started school, we developed a routine. After school they came in, had a snack, did their homework, and then they could play. They still follow this routine although they are much older. They became accustomed to the pattern after constant repetition. The same could work for you. Do you need a routine to be consistent in your weight loss goals? Don’t stop at one. Create alternate routines so that you don’t get bored.

I can tell you that I’m still looking for a way to make exercise a daily routine. I walk daily but it isn’t enough. I made it to the gym but I can’t make it everyday. The change of scenery keeps me from quitting. I have an opportunity to explore other equipment or to take classes. I placed myself in a position where I have to do something. I may not get to the gym every day but I can commit to three days a week. Thirty minutes to an hour of exercise is what I want. What about you? Can you fit some form of exercise into your day? Thirty minutes is reasonable. It works out to twenty minutes if you warm up and cool down for five minutes each. Try to squeeze it into your busy life. You can do it.

Try this to get you moving. Wake up thirty minutes earlier than normal. Set two alarms if you must. Place one on the other side of the room so you will have to get up. Have your workout clothes hanging in the bathroom where you can see them. Get dressed after washing your face and brushing your teeth. You want to feel fresh and alert. Make this your habit three days a week. You don’t have to leave the house to exercise. Do you have gym equipment that doubles as a catchall? The beauty of working out at home is that you don’t have to wait for an available spot on a machine, you don’t have to brave inclement weather, and you can make up a schedule that fits your lifestyle. You need time to adapt to a new routine so do what you think is necessary to get yourself going.
