As someone who also writes for the marriage blog, I had to decide where to put this piece. I finally decided that it belonged here under fitness and exercise because fitness as I am constantly saying is about all aspects of your life and not just the time you do or don’t spend in the gym.
At some point between all the projects we do, the errands we run and the kids we take care of , we actually run out of time to connect with our spouse much less our workout. It’s especially hard for me because I prefer to work out in the early hours of the morning and my husband likes to workout in the evening.
There literally seems to be no hours in the day and if you have to choose between your workout and quality time, the choice can seem impossible. Well, here’s a thought that’s starting to work for us. We multitask a lot of our lives, so let’s multitask these two choices together. In other words, make your spouse your workout partner. You can work out and connect at the same time. It’s good for your heart, inside and out.
While it’s true our spouse’s may workout at a gym while we prefer the house or vice versa, split the difference and head outside. As we march into Spring, it’s a good time to break away from old routines and develop new ones. We’re all wives, daughters, mothers, husbands, sons, fathers and siblings. We all have a lot on our plate. Make time to not only stay physically fit, but to keep your marriage fit as well.
Here are a handful of tips on activities you can do together:
- Walking – Yes, I know it always comes down to walking. But if you head out together for a stroll that gets your heart pumping, you can also talk to each other about issues related to your marriage, your day-to-day lives and more.
- Lovemaking – Yes, ladies I know – but you can burn up to 100 calories in a half of hour of lovemaking and how better to get reconnected with your spouse?
- Side-by-Side Treadmilling – If you can go to the gym together, side-by-side treading is similar to walking together outside, you can just do it together in the gym, but you can go at your own speeds.
- Stretching – Stretching together can give you time to help each other and talk. It also lets you touch each other in a comforting fashion as you help each other stretch.
- Go Dancing – Whether you go out to a club or just dance at home, you can burn 400 calories an hour dancing and you get the added benefits of a good time with each other that can keep you both smiling.
These are just some ideas of how you can work out together. What suggestion do you have?
