Another New York Fashion Week is officially in the books. The event wrapped up Friday with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, previewing their fall collections.
Tommy Hilfiger returned to his preppy roots for his fall collection. The models in his show sashayed down the runway in classic tweeds, cable-knit sweaters, plaids and peacoats. One fashion editor called it: “A sophisticated twist on the collegiate look.”
Hilfiger also got rave reviews for a turtleneck sweater dress with horizontal black-and-white stripes, and a plaid cape, which featured a reflective lining and a reflective circle skirt.
The popular designer told reporters his goal for fall 2007 was to mix day and night looks into a single outfit, and he used a navy wool cropped jacket worn with a tan silk skirt as an example. Hilfiger also presented a layered look featuring short tweed jumpers with turtlenecks. But, the outfit that reportedly got the most applause was a navy silk dress with beading in the shape of a bandeau bikini top at the bustline over a navy turtleneck.
Meanwhile, one of my favorite designers, Ralph Lauren got incredible reviews from fashion editors (what’s new); many of them calling his fall collection: “elegant and sophisticated.”
His show consisted of clothes cut close to the body. For example, one ensemble featured lean black trousers with a cropped cashmere tweed jacket. Lauren’s collection also included cashmere dresses, and bomber jackets—-in brown silk faille–lined with shearling.
As for color, the designer stuck to a shiny classic–gold. His collection included a range of metallic pieces from a puffy ski vest to a short, belted leather trench, and a gold lame gown with a plunging V neck.
