It is February, and this week we are really feeling winter, even in the south. We are introspective, philosophical and cold. One of our favorite collective pastimes this week seems to be curling up with a good book. Here is the families.com homeschooling week in review:

We started the week with Karen Edmisten explaining her eclectic style of homeschooling in Mixed up Methods. This was the last post in her series of Charlotte Mason method of homeschooling. Speaking of Charlotte Mason, I followed this post with a discussion of Historical Fiction of the Ancient Time Period. This post gives several titles you can use to let your child read their way through history.

I talked about homeschooling professional children which discusses how children competing in sports, or working in TV, Movies, or Theatre homeschool.

In Can I Homeschool on the Road?, I answered a forum question about homeschooling while working a job that requires travel. Karen Edmiston further discusses her homeschooling style in The Unschooling in our Homeschool. Meanwhile I continued my series on homeschooling talented children with my post on Homeschooling Talented Children: Identifying talents.

I continued the series on Homeshooling talented children with Allowing Talents to Evolve, and Nurturing talents. Also, Karen Edmisten Asks, Is a GED necessary?

Karen talks about the role of dads in homeschooling, and more specifically, her husband, in The Dad in Our Homeschool. This day, February 7, was a day to remember as it was an especially cold day in the United States, particularly, the southeast. Many schools closed because it was too cold for school. I wrote about this phenomenon in Homeschooling in the Winter, as God Intended. What better thing is there to do on an especially cold day, but read? Karen Edmisten gives her favorite literature picks this article. Karen ads a little humor to our day with her Top Ten Reasons to Homeschool.
Feb 8, 2007
My vocabulary word of the day was Presumptuous. In this article I questioned why strangers feel that by homeschooling we are asking for their input into our lives. We get some homeschooling advice from a single homeschooling parent, Michele Thorne as she answers the question, Traveling Single Parent, Is Homeschooling a Good Idea? I finish the day by discussing one the reasons I am glad I homeschool: Crowd Avoidance.
Feb 9, 2007
It’s still cold outside and Karen gives more winter homeschooling tips in her articles Nature Study in the Dead of Winter and Snowy Reads for Snowy Days. In addition, I offered another vocabulary word of the day: Resilient. This article discusses homeschooling in the midst of excitement, or extreme sadness.
