As much as I love the Internet and the possibilities it brings, I find myself constantly amazed at just how much stuff you can really find online. I knew about the church website, and the ability to download Conference and other talks (most notably the Relief Society and Young Women’s annual meetings). But a friend of mine recently clued me in on another site I hadn’t thought to seek out – BYU Broadcast.
I actually went to the BYU radio page in search of the talks about Isaiah she had told me existed. But the more I explored, the more amazed I was at the wealth of information available. I’m not even sure I have found it all yet – I probably haven’t – but I’m going to post this anyway in the hopes that ya’ll will get out there and explore.
- Podcasts – If you aren’t familiar with Itunes(which I wasn’t until quite recently because, frankly, I don’t own an Ipod), this may be a good time to sneek a peek. Click on “Podcast”, and you’ll get an idea of the lineup. If you download Ipod (it’s free), then the program itself will check in and download new MP3s into your collection as they become available. You don’t even have to check the BYU site; Ipod does it for you. All you have to do is subscribe to the feed.
What options are available?

What a wide and varied selection, all easily downloadable to your computer and then transferable to CD or MP3 for easy, portable listening!
- Findatalk – If you click on the tab to the left to ‘find a talk’, you have a huge number of options to manually download. These include devotional addresses for all three BYU campuses, education week talks for Idaho and Utah, Family Expo talks, Family History talks, Sperry Symposium talks, and Women’s Conference talks. You can search for specific talks by name or subject, or you can use keywords to try to locate a talk on your subject. If you click on the name of the talk, you can purchase it for your permanent collection, watch it on Windows Media as a video, or listen to it as an MP3 audio file (which means you can burn it to a CD or download it to an MP3 player).
- “All Links” Dropdown Menu – There are so many things in here, I don’t even know where to start. They are not all downloadable, but a couple of the ones I sporadically checked, such as ‘Families Under Fire’ and ‘Lectures on Faith’, were.
Many years ago, we subscribed to satellite specifically to receive the BYU channel. When we made the decision to downgrade to no television service (a scary thought, I know), I missed the spiritual nourishment I had received from my television set. What a blessing to find those same things available online! I can see now the biggest problem will be separating me from my MP3 player, where I’ll be able to hear so many fantastic and uplifting talks!
