I think Hollywood’s relationship merry-go-round spins so fast sometimes even the players involved don’t know whether they are coming or going. Are they on? Are they off? Or, are they just being taken for a ride?
It’s a question I ask every time I see Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson’s names used in the same sentence. The actors have been romantically linked in the tabloids for some time. But, are they in fact a real couple? At times it seems as though they don’t even know the answer.
If you are just joining this relationship-go-round here’s the deal: 27-year-old Hudson and her 40-year-old rocker husband, Chris Robinson split last August amid rumors that she was “involved” with her “You, Me and Dupree” costar Wilson. Throughout the summer Hudson and Wilson had been spotted quietly spending time together in California and Hawaii. Then, last fall, entertainment magazines reported the two had split and photographs of Hudson walking with Robinson on the streets of L.A. were splashed on the pages of various publications. The photographs were obviously not a sign of a reconciliation because a couple of weeks after the photos surfaced Robinson filed for divorce from Hudson and requested joint legal and physical custody of their 2-year-old son.
Then, just a few days ago, an Australian newspaper reported that Hudson and Wilson made a rare public appearance Down Under to attend a private screening of pal Matthew McConaughey’s film “We Are Marshall.”
According to sources at the movie screening, Wilson and Hudson made a low-key entrance to the theater and headed directly to their seats.
“They were cozy – they chose seats together – and seemed relaxed although slightly nervous, probably because they were in public together,” one onlooker told reporters. “Once the lights dimmed, they chilled out a bit more.”
Hudson and McConaughey have been filming on location in Australia since November, but this is the first time observers have reported Wilson’s presence in the area. (PEOPLE magazine did print pictures of Hudson back in Hollywood during the holidays, but none of them featured her with Wilson.)
So, are they on or off? I guess we’ll know when their wedding photos are published.
