Why spend tons on those Easter Egg decorating kits? Make your own unique Easter Eggs with items around your house for a very frugal Easter.
It amazes me how elaborate those Easter Egg coloring kits are getting. You can buy all sorts of kits to decorate eggs by dipping, dunking, shaking, etc. I’m waiting for them to come out with an egg decorating kit that involves spray painting! Some of those kits can get a little pricey for just a bunch of color and a sticker or two, but you can easily achieve the same or better results for free just with things you already have at home.
To color your eggs, look no further than your own kitchen. Those fizzy egg color tablets may be fun, but food coloring works just as well. A few drops is all you need, and you can have whatever pallet of colors you like. Other frugal decorating ideas:
Wrap rubber bands around your eggs before dipping for a design.
Try making designs with a crayon on your egg, first before dipping it in the color.
Rather than letting all of those hard boiled eggs go to waste, blow the eggs out and just decorate the shells. Use the insides of the eggs to make an economical fritatta or omelet. To blow an egg, use a needle to poke a small hole in each end. Put your mouth to one of the holes and blow as hard as you can until all of the egg comes out.
Place your eggs in some netting that held your produce, and then dip. Not only will you have interesting eggs, but you can color several eggs at once.
Use old glitzy makeup to decorate the egg. Now is the time to give up that sparkly eye-shadow and purple eyeliner you bought for the winter holidays. If you use anything that might swear easily, just put the color on and then carefully wipe off the excess with a paper or cloth towel.
Brush your egg with white glue diluted with water. Roll the egg in some sparkly glitter. Or, pour the glitter into a sandwich bag first, insert the egg and gently shake.
Use stickers and markers to decorate your eggs. Make sure that the eggs are really dry first, for best results. If you are going to eat the egg, make sure that the markers you use are the non-toxic kind.
