She’s a wife, mother, and career woman… oh, and a multi-millionaire whose name is known around the world. Despite, that “minor” detail, mega-star Madonna says she’s just a “regular mom” dealing with the same problems as the rest of us.
The 48-year-old singer recently granted an interview to British Elle in which she details her hectic life juggling family, career, and other commitments.
“I scream a lot!” Madonna told the magazine reporter. She then added: “Sometimes I handle [stress] well, sometimes I don’t. I take a deep breath or sometimes it’s nice to go run really fast on a treadmill for half an hour and get out all of my aggression. And I’m surrounded by very efficient people who remind me that it’s just a job and I’m going to be okay.”
For me the quote begs the question, “Who is she screaming at?” Are the yells targeted at the “efficient people” who assist her in her daily life? Or, is she a true “regular mom” who occasionally raises her voice when dealing with husband Guy Ritchie and her three children, 10-year-old Lourdes, 6-year-old Rocco, and 1-year-old David? I think most “regular moms” could relate better to the latter than the former.
I first heard about Madonna’s new “regular mom” title a few days ago as I watched the “Hot Topics” portion of ABC’s “The View.” The ladies (Rosie O’Donnell and Co.) were commenting on Madonna’s complaints that like many moms she struggles to get her children to listen to her.
At issue: clothing, and her children’s stubbornness when it comes to fashion. According to Madonna, while her husband is very obedient when it comes to wearing what she approves of, her children are another story—-daughter Lourdes in particular.
Currently, the 10-year-old is modeling and testing the prototypes for mom Madonna’s children’s clothing line, a tie-in with her “English Roses” book series. However, what young Lourdes models at home is far from “English Rose” proper.
“My daughter is going through a phase of wearing jeans that are so tight she can’t bend her knees in them. I have a go at her and say, ‘Can’t you wear something else? You have a closet full of clothes and you wear the same pants every day. And please wear a belt because I don’t want to see your butt crack when you bend over,’ ” Madonna told British Elle.
And, apparently, son, Rocco isn’t scoring any fashion points with mom either.
“He never wants to take off his Gap army fatigue pants. They both wear the same thing over and over again,” the Material Girl told reporters.
Well, I’ll be. Who would have ever thought that I would possibly have anything in common with Madonna (besides the same birthday)? In fact, I too have a child who insists on wearing the same shirt day after day. Not exactly an earth shattering dilemma, only my 2-year-old daughter’s favorite shirt happens to be gray, long-sleeved, and made for a 4-year-old BOY. (It features a picture of Diego and his animal friends—-she saw it in a store and HAD to have it—-size four is all they had.)
Okay, all you “regular moms” out there, what do you think–does Madonna qualify as one of us?
