Pictures Capture Milestones

Three walls in my house are covered nearly floor to ceiling in nothing but pictures. There are pictures of family, friends, moments and more prevalently our daughter. As I was making coffee this morning, I leaned back against the kitchen counter and started looking at this wall of fame. The majority of the pictures on the wall track my daughter’s progress from about an hour after she was born to her current age of five. The larger parts of these are from that first day mark the milestones in her life.

  • The first day she was with us.
  • Her first ride in a car seat.
  • Her first toys.
  • Her first smile.
  • Her first celebrations Christmas – that came just three short weeks after she was born.

The milestones in your baby’s life come only the one time. Too often we look back at our babies as they grow up and you find yourself missing those moments. Far too often parents are so busy that they miss some of the milestones without meaning to.

I don’t mean the first steps or the first words. But the first time the baby focuses their eyes on your face. The first time they turn their head to the sound of your voice. These are moments worth treasuring because as children grow and pass new milestones, you never forget those few precious moments when everything is new.

Capture those moments if you can on film and enjoy the knowledge that you can walk down that memory lane or view it across your wall of memories. Your children will groan, but they will enjoy seeing themselves especially when they begin to grasp that once upon a time they were these babies.

Take a picture today – treasure the photo and the memory it brings forever.
