Garage Sale Signage

One of your best methods of advertising your garage sale, is going to be the signage you place around your area the day of the sale. Therefore, it is important to drive around your area and see where you can place your signs. Look where others are placing their signs, look at what you can see coming from different areas. For instance, be sure that people coming into your neighborhood from either direction, can see your garage sale signs.

Store Bought Signs

You can go to any hardware store, or even discount store and find garage sale signs. They are relatively inexpensive, and usually you will make your cost back in the first ten minutes of your sale. These are usually handy because they can be used over and over again, unless you put the date of the sale on the sign. These signs are usually small.

Hand Made Signs

A more cost effective way to advertise your garage sale with signs, is to make them yourself. A couple of pieces of poster board, leftover pieces of wood or even branches, broom handles and other items, make great signs. Use bright colored poster board and a black marker to catch people’s attention and make the sign easy to read. The best thing about making your own, is that you can make your sign as big or as small as you need.

Information

Be sure and include the words “Garage Sale” in big letters, the time of the sale, including when you plan to close, your address and if you can, on the sides, highlight a few items: furniture, toys, baby items, etc. You do not need to include the date of the sale if you plan to take the sign down at the end of the sale, which you should.

Laws

Please be sure to check out your local laws concerning sign placement. Not all municipalities have rules, but most do. Typically the outside of the neighborhood and all throughout are okay, but even that in some areas is not. It is important to look into the laws because some areas will charge fines as high as $200 for non-compliance.
