I may have found a bike! That’s exciting news for me. If it pans out this weekend, I’ll be hitting the bike trails over the next few weeks to add more challenge to my workouts and continuing to build my endurance.
Daily Goal
Today’s goal was to kick up the treadmill routine from 30 minutes to 2 miles. I accomplished that in about 42 minutes, a little longer than my time spent prior to the surgery, but we’re getting a lot better at it. Following the 2 miles on the treadmill, I did some deep stretches and a series of core strengthening moves including crunches, 7-7-7s and trunk twists – all designed to help me recover some strength to my mid-section.
Time Spent
I worked out for about an hour from start to finish and then hit the showers. My youngest nephew has surgery today and the exercise helped me to focus on what I was doing for a while rather than on my worry for him.
How I’m Feeling
I’m feeling pretty good. We’ve had a flu running through the family and I seem to be nipping it in the bud by not letting it slow me down.
What’s Next
Tomorrow, I’m taking a down day, but Friday I’ll be right back to working out. I’ve found someone with a good bike who is looking to sell it for about $25, which makes it ideal for my budget and my goals! I’ll post an update on that after the weekend.
Challenges to Overcome
The biggest challenge to overcome this week is the desire to just do nothing. Part of the reason I talk about motivation so much is that I need to motivate daily and I know well the effect that exercise can have on your mood. I know it’s a mood booster and that it can enhance how you are feeling and what you are doing and yet at the same time – there are days when I just don’t feel like doing it. That is getting better though, it takes less for me to get myself going now than it did when we started two weeks ago.
How are you doing?
