I’ll admit it. Sometimes I just don’t feel like cooking dinner. We’ve actually had Rocky Road ice cream for our main meal. The kids didn’t seem to mind, and I figure that they normally eat healthy so it’s not going to hurt too much. Nights like that in our house are called “hodge-podge”. As in, “What’s for dinner?” “Hodge podge!” In other words, get your own. Mine are finally old enough to do that. Hooray!
I try to keep easy-to-fix things for nights I’m not making a full meal. We have a freezer in the garage that’s affectionately known as “The Forbidden Freezer.” With teenagers in the house, keeping junk food, treats, or snack food for more than 24 hours can sometimes seem impossible. So into the Forbidden Freezer they go. Nobody is allowed in there without asking. Hodge-Podge nights are one of the few times they don’t have to get permission. Thanks to our local QFC, that freezer is now full.
From now until May 17th, Banquet Chicken Tenders and Chicken Patties are on sale at 2/$4. That’s a decent deal. These are great for chicken sandwiches, and the kids can make them themselves. Six Patties for $2 would be a good deal, right? It gets better. Directly above the boxes is a blinkie for .75 off ANY Banquet Boneless. I asked the head checker if it was good on just the bag shown, or on anything. She looked it over, put some numbers in her computer, and told me that it was indeed valid for the boxes that were on sale. That brings the price down to $1.25 for six patties. Two boxes, a tomato, lettuce, some chips, and a big bag of hamburger buns, and there’s dinner for six of us. Fast, inexpensive, and not actually too much “junk”. A full freezer feels so good! Especially when it’s full of bargains.
