Are You a Working Mother?

I know, your first reaction was “Aren’t ALL mothers working mothers?” Yes, they definitely are, but WorkingMother.com is geared toward moms who work outside the home. They’re looking for working moms whose children play video games to take a brief survey. In consideration, they’ll send you a $5 Best Buy gift card by mail. It takes about six weeks to get the card, but the questionnaire only takes a few minutes.

$5 for a short quiz is very good pay. We are signed up with just one research firm, and take one or two surveys a month. Usually they’re geared toward the teenagers, and mine have received $1 for a movie preview, and $2 to tell them what they thought about a commercial. Mine love getting anything in the mail, especially money! One of my son’s 16-year-old friends makes about $40 a month filling these out. For a kid who’s not working, that’s pretty substantial. If I had the time to answer more, it would be a lot of fun. The money is a nice “thank you”, but for me, having my voice heard is more important. I like the magazine previews, and am always happy to see a cover that I’ve had input on make the racks.

My favorite survey project, though, was a voice recognition project. They paid me $10 per ten-minute phone call. Of course, I had to fill out an extensive demographic profile detailing the places I’d lived. Then I’d get a call every few days and be hooked up with a random person and we’d discuss a topic they’d give us. People are so interesting. Imagine my surprise, too, when an online acquaintance and I ended up talking to each other!

If you’re interested in taking surveys, there’s a list (free, of course) at Volition. And you don’t have to be a working mom to sign up with them.
