Sometimes… dogs don’t always teach each other good habits! I was asking around in some pet communities, looking for stories of dogs teaching dogs. And our pups do share bad habits with each other!
- Wrigley being so intent on watching Maizy is actually part of my problem in training him! Anytime the two of them are together, he is more focused on her than on anyone else around. Working on getting him to focus on me for instruction when she is such a distraction to him, is very hard! He lives in a very Maizy-centered universe. He adores her. Having to keep them separated while she recovers from her knee injury may actually be somewhat beneficial, since now I am spending more individual time with him, maybe he’ll learn to love me as much as he loves her! 😉
- My older dog taught the new baby how to pull things into the crate and destroy them. Then the younger one taught the older one how to go under the bed and eat the bottom of the box spring, haha. Brody (younger) learned all the tricks she knows by imitating Conor.
- Brinkley has taught Jackson to go to the bathroom outside and jump on the furniture. Everything that Brinkley does, Jackson has to do right away. It is rather cute.
- My dog Jet LOVES to play tug with his leash. It’s something he got away with at the shelter, and they couldn’t get him to stop. When we got him we convinced him to stop doing it, and we taught him “drop it”. Well every now and then my boyfriend lets Jet play tug with leash again. He lives for it, haha. My other dog Papu saw Jet having all this fun, and she started tugging on her leash too. She never ever did this until she saw Jet doing it.
- Oh boy! When Zoe was a pup, she picked up a habit of putting her paws in the water bowls at the dog park and scratching at them, then picking them up and dumping the water, and running off with them! All from a little Jack Russell Terrier!
Good or bad, what habits have your dogs picked up from other dogs?
