Can’t find that e-mail message from Lisa that had her phone number in it? And what ever happened to that photo of your son on the playground that you are sure you downloaded to your hard drive? With Google Desktop, you can easily search your entire hard drive to find what you need.
Of course you are familiar with Google, the powerful search engine that you probably use everyday. In fact, it is so popular that it has spawned it’s own verb tense, as in “Okay, I admit it, I googled my old high school boyfriend, yesterday.” (Oh come on, you know you’ve done it, too.)
Google Desktop is the latest tool in the Google arsenal. This free program can be downloaded and installed on your computer in minutes. The search works by keyword to find all of your misplaced files.
When you go to the Google Desktop, the website will recognize your operating system, that is, it will identify you as a PC or Mac user and let you know your exact requirements that the Google Desktop software requires to run. The fact that it can be used across platforms is a nice feature. The listed requirements also make it a pretty user friendly download.
I haven’t tried the software myself, as I am using a Mac OSX operating system that already comes with a powerful keyword search engine of its own. Keyword searches on my hard drive are invaluable, whether I am trying to find a recipe or a business contact.
I am curious to see what people think of the Google Desktop. Is it really everything is supposed to be? From what I have heard about the Google Desktop software, it is pretty fast and reliable.
To try Google Desktop, go to the website at desktop.google.com and download this promising little tool.
