Medical Transcription Schools: Career Step, Part One

This blog is part of a series on transcription. If you haven’t read the other blogs in this series, make sure to check out the summary page for a listing of all transcription blogs.

Today is the first of the blogs about Career Step, the third medical transcription school I have highlighted on here, and the last one I’ll be highlighting on here. There are quite a few other medical transcription schools out there, but these three are the largest and most popular of the group. If you want a full list of all approved AAMT (American Association of Medical Transcription) schools, check that out here.

Career Step has the distinction of being the one out of the three that I personally attended; in fact, I was student at Career Step for 18 months. I really enjoyed my schooling, my “classmates” that I met at the school forum, and the administrators and moderators–I got to know a lot of them really well. I still visit the Career Step forum occasionally (not as often as I would like but every once in a while) and every time, it’s like “coming home” to me. I really grew to love that community that I was a part of. The schooling itself is excellent, and I can wholeheartedly recommend Career Step to anyone looking to become a medical transcriptionist, just as I did M-TEC and Andrews. We are very lucky to have such a diverse selection of schools to choose from, so we can attend the one that fits our individual needs the best. 🙂 You can’t go wrong with any of these schools.

Having said that, here is Amanda, Administrative Assistant at Career Step:

When was Career Step founded? Career Step was founded in 1992 as a medical transcription distance-education company. Since that time, Career Step has emerged as one of the most recognized and respected providers of quality online medical transcription and medical coding training in the industry. Career Step continues to advance its dominant industry position by continuously updating and improving its curriculum, as well as its delivery platform. Career Step is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of its students while adding value to the dozens of employers who hire its graduates.

What is the philosophy behind the school? Career Step is committed first and foremost to developing competent medical transcriptionists and medical coders who are prepared in every way to enter the workforce. Career Step believes in a value proposition that extends to each of the stakeholders in the training cycle. Employers, students, and Career Step all share equally in the positive outcome of the Career Step training experience. Career Step is also fully committed to providing a high level of value to its students. This is accomplished through a reasonable pricing schedule; a robust, competency-based curriculum; and unparalleled industry partnerships with leading employers in the workplace. The Career Step curriculum is exacting and requires more than an average level of dedication and commitment. However, students have the assurance that upon completion of their studies, they will be part of an elite group that will be embraced by employers and have the opportunity to positively transform the industry.
