In the crazy busyness of dropping your children at soccer and the rush to get homework done, do you ever forget the blessing that each child is to you? It is a great responsibility to be a parent, to balance the act of caring and teaching your child with the other aspects of your life. At times it may be difficult to remember just how much your children are teaching you about yourself. It can be difficult to appreciate the quiet moments, when they seem so few and far between.
Each child that comes to your family is a blessing. Heavenly Father has entrusted him or her to your care. It is important that you teach them and raise them the way that they should go. It is also important to cherish your child for each of his individual aspects. Each child you have is a unique person, full of personality and strengths.
When your child is young, take the time to hug your child and cuddle. Enjoy the funny little statements, the mannerisms that set him apart from others. Revel in all that he learns as he goes through the stages of being a toddler and a preschooler. Answer his questions and enjoy the time when you seem to have all of the answers.
When you have an older child, enjoy the questions, marvel in all that your child is now capable of doing. Take time to praise your child in her many accomplishments. Learn the things that she enjoys doing, and spend time with her doing these things. As she becomes more and more independent admire the adult that she is developing into.
No matter the stage that your child is in, let him know that you care. Share your testimony often, and let him know that the Lord loves him as well. Remember to thank the Lord for the blessing of being a parent, and ask Him for the strength that you need to raise your children in the gospel.
