Saving up those twist ties? Here are some great ways to put them to use.
Frugal people generally hate throwing anything away that might be useful. Take those twist ties, for example. I bet right now you have at least a few in your junk drawer. We collect them from packages of baggies, bread bags, snack food bags and more. Those twist ties can really be very useful and earn their keep. Here is how:
Instead of buying one of those expense repair kits for glasses, remove the paper from a twist tie and use the wire for an emergency fix.
Backpack always coming open or undone? Use a twist tie to secure the two zipper pulls together. No more lost homework, sunglasses, money, etc. This works just as well on large luggage, too.
For pets: use a twist tie as a lock on the cage of a small animal, such as a hamster or small bird. Having a door securely latched is especially important if you need to travel with your pet. This will save you money on the purchase of a cage latch kit or lock.
Here is a clever idea I got from a very clever friend who is somewhat of a Mrs Fix it. She inserts a twist tie into the end of a caulk gun after each use to prevent the caulk from drying out and clogging the tip.
Group electrical cords together with twist ties to keep them secure and out of the way. You can also use a toilet paper tube for this purpose. The benefit of the twist ties is that they won’t slip.
