Sleeping With Your Cat (Cats)

cat in bedI don’t know of anyone who owns a cat (if that is even possible) who does not sleep with the cat (or is it the other way around)? If you do not show a cat a specific place to sleep, then your bed is it. While this is all cute and adorable, there are some pitfalls to this situation that you may not be aware of. Let me explain.

I have five felines. One sleeps on my head with a paw dangling listlessly over my forehead, two are usually nestled under the crook of each arm, (I have two), and the two remaining cats take their places on each side of my legs. This as all perfectly fine until the moment I change position and attempt to roll over in what I have come to know as a location that used to be my bed.

This upsets the cart or should I say cats, and repositioning maneuvers must take place in order for everyone to be happy. This can take a while and you may not appreciate the wait if you are trying to sleep! You have to learn to be quick; too much thought will not work in this very specific situation. Move quickly under the covers and as the cats scatter, hold your position firmly and pretend to snore. This will distract the cat or cats, but only momentarily.

Soon everyone will be happy again in his or her new positions (which are really the same, only at different angles). The next problem is the fact with this newly found happiness comes some very loud purring. I sometimes think I am at a dock of running motorboats instead of my own fuzzy and very crowded bed!

What to do? I have no idea. Maybe I will try to sleep in their bed tomorrow even though I strongly suspect that they will find me there too!

Does YOUR cat sleep with you? Please share.
