Time management is a topic that comes up again and again here in the Home Business blog. After all, most of us are juggling work, business, family, and all sorts of other obligations and keeping everything in order is a very big challenge. While many people might feel like they do not have enough time for their families or other non-work-related responsibilities, there may be others of us who feel like we are short-changing our home businesses and guiltily stealing time away that we should be spending on building and operating our business enterprises.
What sort of things might steal time away from your home business? Errands, friends, and family might top the list. But, perhaps there are other hobbies and habits that you indulge in that steal time away. Having a balanced life full of other activities is not necessarily a bad thing—but wrestling with the guilt and self-doubt that could come from spending business time on other activities can be stressful and wear a person down.
In my own home business, I am most likely to steal time away from freelance work to work on my owner personal writing projects. Some days I feel incredibly guilty about this, while on other days, I can justify that working on “the novel” is, in fact, writing work—and while it doesn’t generate an immediate income, it just might some day. Most of the time, however, I have to watch what sort of activities and interests I let creep into my work day, or the guilt of mismanaged time can really get to me!
How about you and your home business? Are there activities that you indulge in that you feel are stealing time away from your home business? How are you organizing your time, work, hobbies, and interests to balance out the things you really want to do with the things you have to do to build your business?
