For one family, it’s a dream holiday come true. The Challens family was visiting Disney World for father John Challens seventh Disney vacation. They were eating lunch in Downtown Disney when a member of the Disney Dream Squad came up to them and put a hand on his shoulder. What did the Disney Dream Squad want to tell Mr. Challens?
Family Dreams Come True
As it turns out, John Challens was the winner of the Disney Grand Marshal trip that will take he, his wife, their ten-year-old daughter and his mother-in-law around the world. The Challens will travel to Disney parks worldwide and serve as the Grand Marshals for parades throughout those parks.
Talk about a Disney dream come true!
Disney Guests Injured in the Animal Kingdom
An unfortunate accident occurred in the Animal Kingdom aboard the Kali River Rapids ride. It seems one of the ride’s sensors malfunctioned. When this occurred the flumes stopped running, halting the ride with guests riding up a very steep incline. Disney is prepared for such events and evacuated the ride so that the maintenance folks could look at it.
Unfortunately, a platform that is used to help evacuate passengers from that incline malfunctioned resulting in six injuries. None of the injuries were critical and according to Disney spokeswoman Kim Prunty, Disney performed safety checks and found no problems. The platform, however, disengaged and slid.
The ride was fully inspected and reopened at 4:15 p.m. about 6 hours after the incident. Disney will have to use an alternative method for evacuation as necessary. There were no names released for the injured guests, but three of those injured were teenagers and one of the six was a Disney employee. Here’s hoping all have a speedy recovery.
Cruising the Mediterranean
In the meanwhile, thousands of brilliantly colored fireworks lit the nighttime sky in Barcelona, Spain as the Disney Magic approached the Spanish port city. The ship’s arrival at the port is the first stage of Disney Cruise Line’s entrance into the Mediterranean cruise market. So depending on where you want to go, it looks like the Disney Magic will be able to cruise you there.
