Home Teaching

The home teaching program is a wonderful blessing to the members of the church. It blesses those in need, and it gives others a chance to serve. It helps to build relationships between the different families in the ward. It also helps to address the needs of each family in the ward.

Every member is assigned a set of home teachers. Home teachers should come and visit with your family once a month. They will provide a short message, which is usually based on the home teaching message in each month’s “Ensign.” Home teachers are also available to come in times of crisis. They are available to give blessings.

It is important to be as accommodating as you can to have your home teachers come and visit. It can be difficult to schedule appointments with a large family because there are so many different activities going on. However, it is important, whenever possible, to have your entire family in attendance. These visits are a time to express any needs that you may have that the ward can help you with. If the need needs to be addressed by the bishop you should go directly to him.

It is also important to encourage your husband to do his home teaching. This includes allowing time for him to go without complaining that he is away from the family. Your family will be blessed because you are willing to sacrifice a little bit of your time together as a family.

I grew up with some wonderful home teachers who visited our family. I was also blessed by home teaching program as a young single adult. I know that the program has been designed to bless the saints. It is important that we each participate in the program as appropriate. How has home teaching blessed your life?
