Homeschool Glossary (Books Parents Should Read) D – F

As I mentioned in the introduction, new homeschooling parents should learn as much about homeschooling as possible by reading many different sources. Here continues my Homeschool Glossary of books parents should read.

Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum: A Guide to Catholic Home Education by Laura M. Berquist (Paperback – Nov 1998)

This book on Classical Homeschooling is for parents who have already educated themselves on Classical Homeschooling and are ready to move forward. Like all homeschooling books, this one should be read for information and advice and not used as a step by step guide. It is written by an individual from that person’s point of view and tells how they homeschooled their own. Your will want to adjust for you own needs.

Discover Your Child’s Learning Style: Children Learn in Unique Ways – Here’s the Key to Every Child’s Learning Success by Mariaemma Ms Willis and Victoria Ma Kindle Hodson (Paperback – Oct 13, 1999)

This book will help parents discover the learning style of their kids. It uses uncomplicated assessments. While this book is not written strictly for homeschoolers, homeschoolers are sure to find it helpful and encouraging.

Family Matters: Why Homeschooling Makes Sense by David Guterson (Paperback – Sep 16, 1993)

This book is written from the view point of a public educator who “fell into” homeschooling. This book will give you one father’s journey into homeschoolers, as well as an educators argument as to why homeschooling works.

Freedom Challenge: African American Homeschoolers by Grace Llewellyn (Paperback – Jan 1, 1996)

If you want to know about homeschooling from people who actually homeschooled than this book is for you. Written for hesitant African Americans who are considered homeschooling, this book will make you feel like you are not alone. This book will also make you feel like perhaps, you too can homeschool your kids. I highly recommend it.

Fundamentals of Homeschooling: Notes on Successful Family Living by Ann Lahrson-Fisher (Paperback – Sep 15, 2002)

This book reminds the reader that family life is just as important as homeschooling and helps to combine to two. Reading this book will help you to see how homeschooling is a lifestyle instead of something that you “do” for just a few hours a day. I strongly advise anyone who is thinking about homeschooling to read this book, and then put it on their home library shelf to use as a reference guide.
