Have you written down the desire of your heart? Are you delighting in the Lord and waiting to see how He will fulfill the desire of your heart?
I certainly was, as we considered our move to Orange. Despite Satan’s best efforts to sow doubts, and at times he seemed to work overtime on this, we prepared to move. Convinced by Scripture, prayer and providential circumstances we got ready to move, secure that God would direct and undertake for us. I felt sure somehow God would enable me to use those gifts and abilities he caused me to write down, that I had no idea how. But that’s the exciting thing when we leave it to God, He works out the details.
Do you trust Him to direct you regarding His will? Will you leave Him to work out the details? I hope so.
In my case. As I look back sixteen years later and on the verge of moving again to the area and church God has already chosen for us, I can see how God used those gifts I listed. During my time here, I have used my singing to lead the congregation I am a part of, something I’d never done while in Sydney.
After several years of writing Sunday school materials, poetry and articles, I wrote my first children’s novel, ‘Chasing After the Wind’ which was pulled from the slush pile by the editor at Scholastic and published in 1997. Since then I have written other
books including ‘Kaleidoscope’ a collection of poems published by Ginninderra Press.
God enabled me to run creative writing classes where I was able to inject Christian input. My husband and I led an after school kids club for primary aged children, where again I was able to use my singing and experience teaching the bible. Relating to others and leading groups came into play as I was asked to lead a discussion group firstly with BSF international, and then later with an Explorer’s Class.
After a number of years I wrote several in depth, ‘Growing With God,’ bible studies, similar in format to the BSF and Explorer’s studies. In time, as the teaching leader left for missionary work in Nigeria, I took over as teaching leader of the Growing with God studies. More recently I have taught the bible through Scripture lessons in schools – something I am thankful is still available to us in Australia.
Now, through these blogs and the internet, I’m reaching people throughout the world with my writing. I look back and see how God directed me to use each one of those four gifts and abilities I wrote down.
As we move again, I’m keen to see how God will direct us into specific areas of ministry as we seek to do His Will.
If you want to know God’s will for your life, why not work through Discovering God’s Will. As well as this, I encourage you to read God’s Word, pray, look for the openings He provides through providential circumstances, make a list of your abilities and gifts and the desire of your heart and then look to see how God will work all these together for you and use you to further His kingdom. You might be surprised at the results.
