Young Men: Summer Service Projects

The summer time is a great time for the young men to work on service projects. The young men need to complete many hours of service both for the Duty to God award and the Eagle award. For the Eagle service project the young man is supposed to organize and supervise a fairly large project. The Duty to God Award allows you to use the Eagle Project service for one of the service project requirements. Here are four ideas that can be used as projects in the summer.

1) One wonderful project is to help restore an old graveyard. This can include pouring new gravel on the roads, repairing fallen tombstones, planting flowers and helping repair the sign or fence. The hours on this service project would take at least one full day. It is also a project that lends itself well to many helping hands.

2) Another project that would be good is to help with the repair and clean up of a hiking trail. You would need to talk to your city or county park service or the national forest rangers. They will tell you trails that need to be completed and you can go forward from there. This is a nice way to help others enjoy nature.

3) Another great project is to volunteer to help repaint and clean a recreation center in your area. The recreation center gives a lot to the community, and the city may have difficulty keeping up with the upkeep. Again this is a great project for a lot of volunteers.

4) Another project could be to organize a social event, such as a dinner dance for the seniors or disabled in your community. This would take several hours of planning. You would need volunteers to help carry off the dinner serving. This is a great way to reach out to those who may be lonely.
