How Murphy, Tabby, and Kitty Did for Father’s Day

After a lot of thinking about what to get Wayne for Father’s Day, it turns out we did pretty well this year. Even if we didn’t find any unique “from the cat/dog” presents, we fared okay after all.

The cards were great. Murphy’s stole Wayne’s heart. It was a picture of a bulldog staring up with big eyes. The outside read: “If I looked up to you anymore…” and the inside finished with “…my neck would hurt.” Murph then went on to write a lot of specifics in the card about why he looks up to his “papa” so much.

The cats had to share a card. (It’s good for them.) Theirs was more of the funny/sarcastic variety. They vowed to try to take a little time out from their usual mischief to celebrate Wayne –and give him a break. Even if it was short lived. (But it was like they understood what the card had said and were making an effort to get along, because they stood next to each other without hissing for treats in the morning. Normally there’s a lot of hissing and spitting, even some swatting –which they were back to by noon.)

I ended up getting Wayne a gift card to iTunes, and the animals did get him a heart rate monitor to run and train with. A Polar FS3 to be exact.

Well, that’s what he ended up with. They got him a more expensive one to begin with, because they couldn’t find that one the first go around. But he insisted we take the other back and get him the FS3 (which was less expensive).

Murph was very concerned about it. I don’t know what all he understands half the time, but he knew where I had hid the present and he was all tail wags when we went to get it to give to Wayne Sunday morning. Then, when Wayne didn’t take it out of the packaging he looked sad. He sort of was dancing around Wayne’s legs waiting for a big thank you. Then a short while later when Wayne decided he was going to return it and we left with the still unopened box, the only word that can describe Murph’s face was “crestfallen.” We had to reassure him we were just exchanging it. He seemed appeased by this somewhat, but he did check when we came back that we had a bag! (I wish I had a video because this is one of those “picture is worth a 1,000 words” scenarios. You almost have to see it to not only understand but to believe it.)

At any rate, I think the mission was accomplished. Sometimes I don’t think Wayne realizes just how much of a factor in Murphy, Kitty, and Tabby’s life he is, but he is. That’s why Father’s Day was so important to us –we want to make sure he knows just how special he is!
