Here we are, just a few short hours away from the official start of summer, even though we’ve have temperatures in the 90’s for quite a while where I live. School’s out, kids are home, moms are busy – and that doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for reading. Many children do their reading in conjunction with school, and this is why libraries set up summer reading programs, to give kids the incentive to keep reading when they’re not at school. You can check with your library to see what they’re offering by way of reward – we got signed up just yesterday and we’re already on the fast track to baseball tickets and Subway sandwiches. Not too shabby! And now, many libraries are offering programs for teenagers as well, with slightly more mature rewards.
During these short, precious weeks of summer, I’m going to be focusing many of my book reviews on books for young adults and intermediate readers. It’s hard to pull yourself away from the great outdoors to sit down and read, but I hope to suggest some really great books that will make it easier for your teens and intermediates to get some reading in between the pool parties and the hot dog roasts. Keep your eyes out for these reviews.
Now, to kick the summer off right, allow me to redirect you to some previously offered young adult reviews:
Okay, Moms and Dads, now what about you? Sure, it’s hard to fit in reading when there’s so much going on, but you can help influence your children by reading too. Plus, you deserve the chance to pull back and relax at the end of a long day. My recommendations:

I know it’s tricky — but keep reading through the summer months. You’ll be glad you did!
