Have you gone through periods of your life when you seem to drift away from the gospel? Or have you watched a loved one go through this experience? Generally when this happens you are struggling to put the Lord first in your life. It is so easy to allow other things to come between your relationship with the Lord. It is important to take time each day to remember Him.
One way to remember the Lord is to take time each day to pray to Him. Prayer can be intimidating. It can be difficult to continue praying if you do not feel as though you are getting an answer. When you feel this way, it is important to slow down and really take time to communicate with the Lord. Kneeling down for thirty seconds and mumbling through a list of problems is not an effective way to pray. Take time to talk to your Heavenly Father and tell Him about your day. Be sure that you take time to listen as well.
Of course scripture study is another great way to remember the Lord and put Him first in your life. The scriptures may seem boring or difficult to read, but as you spend time reading them you will discover that they are very accessible. There is a lot to learn from the scriptures. You can grow and learn something new each day. As you read take time to ponder the things that you are reading. It is important to look for ways that you can apply these things to your life. This will help you to focus on what is truly important.
It is also important to spend time thinking about the gospel. Meditation can bring great peace and happiness. As you take time to reflect on your blessings, you are meditating. If you are focusing on a particular scripture story and how it affects your life you are meditating. If you are taking time to feel Heavenly Father’s love for you, you are meditating. Too often people are afraid to be alone to think or to feel. It is important that we each spend time meditating on a regular basis.
These things will help you to draw closer to the Lord. They will help you to put Him first in your life. This will bring you peace as you face the struggles and trials in your life. It will bring you joy as you reflect on your many blessings.
