Are you still looking for an “angle” for marketing and promoting your home business? From what I have heard from some of you here and others who start their own small, home-based businesses, marketing can be one of the biggest challenges. The trick is to find out what appeals to your target market and find a good fit for your product or services. One of the angles that work well with all sorts of markets is…romance.
I’m not talking about half-clad young things draped over cars or boats or drinking sodas and alcoholic beverages—trying to send a message that if a person consumes the product they will be just as fabulously fit and sexy as the model. I’m talking about romance—evoking a more enchanting, captivating, passionate, and sensuous “vibe” around your product or service.
Feelings can be a very good approach to marketing. Tapping into how your product will make people feel focuses on the sensory qualities of your product and can be quite appealing. This can also tap into something that seems more classical and traditional—not young, hot and edgy. Look at how some perfumes, foods, beverages (tea, for example) are marketed and you will see some campaigns that are dripping with romantic qualities. Customers are attracted to romance because it feels so pleasant!
So, how can you tap into romance in your own marketing? If you are offering a product or service that can add to a customer’s quality of life in a sensuous way—make them smell better, feel better, relax, have more time for leisure, spend more or better time with loved ones, etc. than you may be able to create a little romance around your sales and marketing pitch. Think of some of the words that say romance to you and play around with ways to incorporate them into your business communications. You may actually want to come up with a slogan for your business that creates a “romantic” message.
