The Examples in Your Ward

Today my husband and I were talking about a family in our ward. This family has several kids, boys on missions, kids going to college on scholarships and so together in every way. When we look at this family, that is what we want to be like in another fifteen years. My husband made the comment, “They live the gospel like they really mean it.” And you know he was right.

I know that they take family scripture study seriously. They have it together every day, in fact they have a basket with scriptures, and colored pencils, so they can mark it as they can go. They also have family journal time together on a regular basis. They plan their family home evening topics out several months in advance so that their children can enough time to prepare a lesson. You can tell that family prayer is a high priority as well.

It is also wonderful to see how much each child means to their family. The parents spend a lot of time making sure that each child feels loved and appreciated. In addition the family members care for each other. They spend time together on a regular basis. The children all have strong testimonies of the gospel.

The parents also lead by example. They are caring people who put the gospel foremost in their lives. Their children know which way to go because they are walking ahead of them. They are living their lives the way that we all should.

I am sure that you know a family similar to this. It is so encouraging to see that doing these things as a matter of course, and living your testimony can really affect your children. As you follow the teachings of the gospel, hold well-prepared family home evenings and regular scripture study your family will be blessed in so many ways. I am grateful to have these examples around me to encourage me to reach higher.
