Our favorite amusement park of all time is Legoland. We were so incredibly impressed. A couple of summers back, we did an amusement park vacation, visiting parks from Seattle to San Diego. While we loved Magic Mountain and Marine World, it is Legoland that my kids still talk about. I asked each of them what their favorite part of the trip was, and all four independently answered that it was Legoland. It’s no wonder. They’ve been playing with the Legos since they were old enough to put two pieces together.
We have millions of dollars worth of Legos here. Okay, not quite millions, but it sure seems that way. My dad, who lives with us, collects the cowboy and Indian sets and has them nicely displayed throughout his room. Elisha likes the Star Wars ones (of course) while my other son has a huge collection of pirates and sea-faring items. They can get expensive, and we usually only get them for special occasions.
I am willing to pay for them because they spark imagination and creative play. I love to peek at their made-up cities or their mock battles. Of course, I’m much MORE willing to pay when the price is right. The Lego store occasionally has good sales. One of them is going on right now. The best deal for us is the Viking Chess Set at half off. Instead of $50, it’s only $25. When you consider that the set contains twenty-four minifigs, that’s a great deal! We occasionally shop at online auctions to get the pieces they want, and most common minifigs go for $2-3 apiece. My kids are chess geeks, so I’m sure that they’ll use the set for chess. Even if yours are not, the pieces are great fun. Spend some time on the Lego site and pick up a great deal that matches your children’s interests. Here are some samples that are 50% off:
