My name is Kevin Delp, and I’ve recently joined the ranks of bloggers here at families.com as the man responsible for the Fathers’ section. I’d like to take the opportunity to tell you a little about myself.
I’m happily married to my college sweetheart and wife of eleven years, Valorie. Together we have managed to survive (so far… knock on wood) raising five children. I’ve certainly had some interesting “daddy adventures” in my brief career of being a father, and I’m not foolish enough (anymore) to think that I know or have seen it all as a dad.
When I’m not raising my own kids, I’m working with someone else’s. When I first graduated from college I taught high school English in Spanish Harlem in New York City. Since then, however, I have been teaching preschool and elementary physical education as well as coaching children’s team sports, also in New York City.
I love to both play and watch sports, although as my family has grown I’ve found that I less time to enjoy sporting events.
I love to read, although as my family has grown I’ve found that I have less time to enjoy a good book.
I love going to the movies or to a show, although as my family has grown I can’t really afford to do that very often anymore.
I enjoy fine dining, although as my family has grown I’ve had to eat more and more food with the word nugget in its name.
I enjoy finding humor in almost any situation, and as my family has grown I get to exercise that talent with greater and greater frequency.
I look forward to sharing some of my insights, successes, and shortcomings with all of you, and I have some great stories to tell, but it doesn’t have to be a one way street. I look forward to meeting and chatting with many of you in the forums, or you could also PM me if you have a blog request or just want a father’s perspective.
