As members of the church we are encouraged to dress in our best for church. This reminds us that church is a special time to reflect on our relationship with the Savior. It can also help us to focus more on the lessons that we learn at church. However, it is important not to judge others in what they wear to church.
I have seen investigators that come to church in jeans and a t-shirt and they are welcomed in with open arms. I have also known sisters that come to church in nice slacks and a dress shirt. Once I was at the temple and one person was wearing work clothes after completing a session. I am sure that he had not realized that he would have time to attend the temple, but did not want to miss the opportunity when he had it.
While it is important to dress nicely for church, the attitude that you bring to church is just even more important. If you come with a willing and open heart, the spirit will touch your heart and learn. If you come and judge others you will be the one that loses out when it comes to feeling of the Spirit.
There may be times that your Sunday best is a simple skirt and shirt and times when it is a bit nicer. No matter what you have to wear you will be welcomed. It is important to come with a heart and mind that is open to learning and studying the gospel.
The wards where I felt that more people were being judged on their Sunday attire were the singles/student wards I attended. Sadly these can turn into a fashion show. However, not all singles wards are this way. As you attend and focus on what you can learn you can begin to change this.
