Fitness Journal – Lucky Day?

Was today a lucky day for you? I know it wasn’t what I would call a phenomenally lucky day for me. But then I’m not prone to looking at days as ‘lucky’ or not. We got up early and went to the park because for once, it wasn’t raining – go figure. We had 44 days of consecutive rain and while it doesn’t rain all day, the storms tend to make it muggy and unpleasant outdoors. My daughter tends to be very sensitive to the heat when it’s combined with the mugginess so we limited our park trip to just an hour.

Playground Workout

We walked to the park, it’s about a quarter of a mile. When we got there, I pushed her on the swings for ten minutes and that’s a nice resistance exercise for your arms, especially if you alternate from arm to arm. Then I spent ten minutes doing circuits around the playground equipment getting my heart rate up to 130.

While my daughter played on the equipment and pretended to be a princess trapped in a castle, I did chin ups on the monkey bars – she called me the hanging dragon – that was pretty fun. Finally as we were both getting hot and tired, we did a few rounds going up and down the slides, she would climb up to slide down and I used the steps to do step climbing.

The workout lasted for about 45 minutes and I was pretty drenched in sweat by the time I was done. She was also hot and needed a cool down so we headed home, sharing the 2 liter bottle of water. The air conditioning in the house felt great when we got there. I hit the showers and she stretched out on the floor in the living room.

Funny side note: When I came back out to the living room, she was doing sit-ups. When I asked her why, she said because she didn’t work out as much as I did at the park, but since it was cooler in the house, she was game to do it there.
