Would Your Customers Call You “Dedicated”?

One of those lessons we learn again and again in life is that our own self concept of what we think we are like, doesn’t always mesh with other people’s perception of us. Sometimes that doesn’t really matter and we don’t need to care what other people think of us. When it comes to our home businesses and our reputation as a business person, whether people think we are dedicated or not, actually does matter.

Dedication is one of those words I wrestle with a bit. After all, one man’s dedicated person is another’s work-a-holic, but I do know that people have more faith and confidence when it comes to doing business with someone they view as dedicated and committed. If people get the impression that you are just killing time or showing up to punch a time clock (I know, this really isn’t the case with those of us putting in all of our blood, sweat and tears for our home-based businesses) then they won’t be too impressed. Think of how you have felt as a consumer when you’ve been waited on or received “customer service” from someone who you could tell didn’t give a hoot. I don’t know about you, but I’m likely to just take my business elsewhere!

So, how can you show your dedication and make sure it comes through to your prospects and clients? Follow through on commitments, share new and updated information, make sure to return calls and touch base with clients on a regular basis. There are many different ways you can show people that you are taking your business seriously and are dedicated to its success, regardless of how small or new it might be. This way they will get the message that your business is important to you and keeping them happy and satisfied as a customer is part of your dedicated efforts too!
