Nicole Breaks Her Silence

Not only did she not get to interview Paris Hilton, but now word has it Barbara Walters has been snubbed by Nicole Richie as well. According to ABC News, Hilton’s BFF chose to spill her guts to Walters’ colleague Diane Sawyer instead.

On August second and third, Sawyer will broadcast parts of her interview with the “Simple Life” star on “Good Morning America.” The interview will be shown in its entirety on the August 3rd episode of “20/20.” The sit down with Sawyer marks Richie’s interview since her self-imposed media silence.

Hmm… a three part interview? I’m surprised Sawyer edited it down to three. After all, goodness knows she’s got a lot of ground to cover, not the least is the fact that several media outlets have already announced that the ultra-thin “actress” will be giving birth to her first child in January. Richie and purported fiancé (and if you believe the rumors– Richie’s baby’s daddy) Joel Madden have yet to confirm the baby news, but one can only gather that it’s one of the reasons Lionel’s daughter is chatting publicly with Sawyer.

The typically media friendly Richie has been keeping a low profile (literally, by slouching in her car outside suburban malls where her “Good Charlotte” boy toy was performing in an effort not to be seen) ever since word got out that she was pregnant.

Other topics Sawyer is bound to cover include Richie’s August 16th court date for her December 2006 DUI arrest. As a repeat offender, the stomach-hiding starlet could face 90 days to one year in jail. Heck, while she’s at it I hope Sawyer confronts Richie on the speculation made by many in the media (and in Hollywood) that after seeing what BBF Hilton went through that perhaps Richie got pregnant on purpose to get out of serving jail time.

Like I said, there’s a lot to cover.

Hopefully, Sawyer will make the most of her time with Richie. The journalist has a pretty good reputation when it comes to getting celebs to open up. Remember her past interviews with Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley, Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, Tom Cruise and The Dixie Chicks?
