Dorm Room Checklist

There are some things you may not have thought of that will come in handy in your new dorm room. This list is certainly not exhaustive, but hopefully, it will be helpful. Look over this list to see if there are any items you forgot and add them to your own list. Keep adding to your list and then check each item off as pack.

Electronic Elements

1) Surge protector for your computer
2) Power strip (if permitted) in case the dorm room is short on outlets
3) Electric alarm clock with battery back up

Clothing Concerns

1) Travel iron (takes up less space than a regular one)
2) Portable ironing board (fits under bed or in closet)
3) Sewing kit (with basic styles and colors of buttons and thread)
4) Safety pins for emergency repairs
5) Stain remover (treat stains until laundry day)
6) Pop up mesh hamper (store dirty clothes and carry them to laundry)

Health and Hygiene

1) Caddy or plastic storage container with lid and handle (take shampoo, etc., right from dorm to shower and back again. Easier to carry, keep track of items, and store upon return to your room).
2) Refills of important items like deodorant (don’t want to run out in the middle of finals!)
3) First aid kit filled with basic items like bandages, antibiotic cream, peroxide, aspirin…
4) Heating pad, ice pack

Everyday Essentials

1) Two sets of sheets (one for use while other is laundered)
2) Airtight containers to keep snacks fresh
3) Locked metal box (for important papers, cash, other private items – best to keep hidden)
4) Address book with emergency contact numbers on front page
5) Emergency debit card or credit card (keep in lock box)
6) Extra supplies (check and refill paper, pens, and other necessities often)

Cozy Comforts

1) Add lots of pillows (add softness and extra seating)
2) Personal fan for hot weather
3) Extra blanket for cold weather

*Best wishes (and call your parents often!)
