Queen Guitarist Completes Doctorate

Queen has always been my favorite band. Well, okay, when I was six, I loved the Monkees, but I have always loved the music of Queen. Now, I read that not only are they talented musicians, but one of them is now a doctor!

Brian May, renowned for what he can do with a guitar, just completed his doctorate in astrophysics. This comes 30 years after he left school to help form Queen. The young May quit Imperial College once the band started becoming successful in 1971.

The sixty year old guitarist (who also wrote many of the songs Queen performed) plans to submit his thesis “Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud” within two weeks. Good grief, I don’t even know what that means, but it certainly sounds important!

While astrophysics is a very important field, I think maybe Brian did the right thing by dropping out and concentrating on Queen instead of his studies, but how cool that he never gave up on his dream of a doctorate. Well done, Dr. May!

Etta James Hospitalized

She has one of the greatest female voices ever, but that voice has been silenced, at least temporarily. Etta James had to be hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center today after complications from an abdominal surgery she had last month. It is not known what type of surgery she had or what the complications are.

The 69 year old is listed in stable condition, but had to cancel her upcoming tour with B.B. King and Al Green. Her manager, Lupe De Leon said James should be back in late August to put on the kind of show her fans love.

If you have never heard of Etta James, go to iTunes and listen to some of her music, especially “At Last.” She is simply amazing.
