End of Summer Party

All around the country, it’s time for back to school. I am mourning the loss of summer. We never seem to do all that we mean to do. Time and lack of finances prevent some things, but other things we just never get around to doing.

A lot of people will celebrate the end of summer with one last cookout on Labor Day. But by that time we will have been in school for three weeks. We will feel like summer was over a long time ago. I like the idea of an end of summer party though.

Here are some ideas for celebrating One Last Day of Summer:

Spend the day at the water. It doesn’t matter if it’s a pool, lake, a creek, or beach. Or you can fill up the kiddie pool and turn on a sprinkler.

Serve whatever tastes like summer to you – watermelon, homemade ice cream, Popsicles from a corner market, corn on the cob, grilled hot dogs, homemade lemonade, or a large glass of iced tea.

Pick one of those things you meant to do this summer, and go do it. In Colorado the amusement and water parks will be closed soon.

To me, summer is all about backyards. I like to break out the bubbles, sprinklers, water balloons, and lawn games one last time. It’s fun to hold a badminton or croquet tournament.

Let the kids stay up late and star gaze or catch lightning bugs (fireflies). Break out the glow sticks and let them run around the yard. Let them play until dark. They can sleep in the next day.

School schedules, early mornings, car pools, and homework will be here before we know it. And the holidays seem to follow almost instantly. Here’s to one last day of summer fun!
