It’s only been in the last few years that I’ve noticed them. They lurk in the shadows, waiting for their opportune moment, usually on an important evening, and then they show themselves and never leave. They burrow themselves into my face, digging in with an enviable persistence and determination. Yes, I’m talking about crows’ feet and wrinkles.
Growing up at the beach meant that I was pretty carefree about the sun (and everything else). I was tanned, toned, young, and beautiful, and wrinkles were something old people had, not me. Now that I’m older and in the Northwest, my skin ranges from deathly pale to red as a pomegranate. I rarely have time to build up the protection in the sun needed for a tan. Instead I’m relegated to the color of a beluga whale. But those days at the beach are not forgotten – not by my face, anyway. We use the euphemisms “laugh lines” or “wisdom marks”, but they certainly do age us, don’t they?
When I see an older woman with beautiful skin, I’ve been known to ask her what she uses on her face. Certainly genetics play a part. Those of us with pale skin tend to wrinkle a lot more quickly and deeply than others. But the overwhelming majority of the older women I’ve asked use one of three things: nothing but water, Pond’s cold cream, or Oil of Olay.
Oil of Olay’s new product is Olay Definity. It’s supposed to diminish discoloration, dullness, and wrinkles. I’m up for that! Right now, they’re offering a free sample and a coupon toward your next purchase. For free, I’ll definitely give it a try. It likely won’t banish those that are already here, but if it helps to make my skin healthier, it will be well worth it.
