“Does My Butt Look Big In This?”

How many times have you uttered those words? My friends and family will tell you they’ve lost count of how many times I’ve made them to “honestly” answer that question. As I think about it, I can’t remember a time I’ve gone shopping for jeans without raising the butt question. After all, who wants to drop $50 on good denim if it makes your rear look unflattering? I, for one, appreciate having someone who can convince me to put back that pair of super skinny jeans… and stick with khakis.

But what happens when you are jeans shopping ALONE? It’s not like you can (well, I guess you could, but would you want to) ask the sales lady or the woman in the dressing room next door if your tush looks like a blue shrink wrapped watermelon in a pair of jeans?

Enter the Butt Cam. In the category of what-they-won’t-think-of-next (or why-didn’t-I-think-of-that) some guy (yes, it was a man) created a way shoppers can check out their rear assets before purchasing a pair of jeans.

The owner of an upscale shop in Arizona (which sells jeans for between $150 and $900) came up with the idea of positioning a camera that’s connected to a video screen on a dressing room wall. Customers say it provides a perspective that you don’t get with traditional full-length mirrors.

The store’s owner, a 30-year veteran of the retail industry, says he came up with the Butt Cam after watching customers twist, turn, and contort their bodies into pretzel-like shapes in front of mirrors to check out their derrieres.

Employees at the trendy shop say both male and female customers use the Butt Cam. In fact, the setup has become so popular employees are now displaying views of their more confident shoppers on flat-screen TVs behind the cash registers for all to see.

What do you think about the new device?
