Microsoft Photo Story – Arranging your pictures

Now that you have organized and selected the pictures you want to use in your digital slideshow, you are ready to arrange and edit your pictures. If you missed the beginning of this series on creating a slideshow of your digital pictures, you can find it here.

Arranging your pictures

After selecting the pictures you want to use, they will appear in the timeline across the bottom of the program window. You can see in the screenshot below, I have selected five photos for my slideshow.

Arrange your pictures

Unless you took the time to order your pictures beforehand, you may want to reorder your slideshow. Doing so is very easy. Say, for example, I wanted to move the picture of the Texas flag to the end of my slideshow. All I would need to do is click on the picture in my timeline, and then use the arrow at the right side of the timeline to move the picture (I have highlighted the arrows in the screenshot below). You can also just click on the picture and drag it to where you want it in the timeline. This works best for timelines with lots of pictures.

Deleting pictures from your slideshow is just as easy as moving them. You can either use the “X” at the right side of the timeline or right click your mouse on the picture and select “delete.” Remember, you are not actually deleting the picture from you hard drive, only removing it from your slideshow. You original picture is safe.

Moving pictures

If you are reading these blogs and following along, it is probably a good idea to save your project now. You should get in the habit of saving your work often, just in case the program freezes up and some of your work is lost. Just click on the “Save Project” button and give your project a name. Also, if you need to stop and pick up later where you left off, saving your project will ensure you can do so.

After you have arranged your pictures in the order you would like them, you can either edit specific pictures (e.g., remove red eye, use color correction) or move on to adding special effects. We’ll cover both in the next blog.
