Tiny Origami Stars

Origami is always a fun project. It’s so fun to take paper and turn it into something totally different.

Children love tiny things. Origami Wishing Stars are tiny, cute, and colorful. You might even say enchanting. I guarantee that either adults or children can pass by a few of these stars without picking them up.

Wishing Stars from KLUTZ is a mini-sized kit that makes 100 tiny brightly colored origami stars. The kit comes with 100 paper strips and directions. The directions are simple and easy to follow. What is extra great is that you actually lay out the strip of paper on the directions and match the folds to the pictures. Being able to fold the paper according to the picture makes for a lot fewer mistakes. The finished product is about the size of an adult thumbnail.

The kit also comes with some enchanting ideas for using the stars. You can write secret messages or inspirational quotes on the paper strips before folding. You can write fortunes and let people pick their stars. You can string some stars and tape them to your window. I think a few strung together would add a very cute touch to a package. If you cut small strips out of shiny stiff wrapping paper, I think the end result would be a very cute, but tiny, ornament. Or it could be a topper for one of those miniature Christmas trees. I’m also thinking that this project would work with stiff ribbon. If it does that gives it even more potential for the holidays.

The reading level for the instruction booklet is 9 to 12 years of age. I probably wouldn’t attempt this project with children any younger than nine. The stars aren’t hard to fold, but since they are so very tiny they do take quite a bit of fine motor coordination.
