Are there times when you feel like your prayers are not being heard? This can happen to the best of us. It is important that the Lord is there. He does listen and answers to our prayers. There may be several reasons that you may feel this way. Here is a list of things to consider.
1) Are you taking the time you need to pray? If you hurriedly rush out a prayer because you are late for work, you may not have time to feel as though you are being heard. You may need to schedule a place that is quiet and a larger block of time to pray.
2) Are your prayers rote memorization? If you are constantly saying the same thing everyday, you may need to make some changes. Remember a prayer is a conversation with your Heavenly Father. You should talk to Him about your feelings, your frustrations and your every day life. It is also important to remember to give thanks for your blessings, even the little things that you are grateful for.
3) Are you praying for the right things? Sometimes it is easy to become so caught up on exactly what you want that you miss the blessings that the Lord wants to provide for you. Often these are better than you could even imagine. It is important to pray that His will be done, and that you may come to accept His will and recognize what that is.
4) Are you preparing yourself before you pray? One great way to prepare is to spend time reading your scriptures. You may prepare by coming up with possible solutions. You should be alert and coherent when you pray. If you are constantly falling asleep when you are praying or other unrelated thoughts sink in, you may need to find a better way to focus.
5) Most importantly you need to keep praying. You may want to pray that you can feel His love for you and that He is listening. You may need to jot down the prayers that are answered and how, so that you can look back on this list during difficult times in your life.
