Reversible Decor Elements

If you like to change things around in your home and change your decor every so often, perhaps with the seasons, you can do so easily with reversible decor elements. Creating reversible decor elements not only allows you to change the look and feel of a space with ease, but it also gives you more bang for your buck.

Instead of having four separate sets of accent pillows for the family room sofa, to change with the seasons, you can cut that number in half. Make pillows that feature one color, texture, or print on the face, and another completely different fabric on the back. Simply flip them all over when you feel like a change. Make another similar set for the other two seasons of the year. You can also mix and match different sets of pillows for more interest, or switch one set with a set from the living room.

You can do the same thing with bed pillows or accent pillows for the bed. You can even make a reversible duvet cover and curtains (or make a reversible fabric shade as detailed in a previous article). Make one side a deep color for use during colder months, and make the other side a bright, sunny color for use during spring and summer.

An additional benefit to double-sided curtains is the fact that they are heavier than single-layered designs, so they will help insulate your windows better. You’ll save money on decor elements, and you might save a few bucks on power bills too.

You can create reversible decor elements with nearly any fabric treatment in any space. Try this idea for throws, rugs, slipcovers, tablecloths, placemats, and even shower curtains.

You can have great looking accents throughout your home that can be changed in a moment’s notice, and you will also cut your fabric costs and sewing time in half.
