Wedding Day Transportation

Do you remember what you drove away in after exchanging vows with the love of your life on your wedding day? Was it a stretch limo, a trolley, a bus, a horse drawn carriage, or a vintage convertible? The type of vehicle a bride and groom takes their first ride in together as man and wife is often overshadowed by the dress, flowers, and reception site, but it is still a critical part of any wedding day.

Any bride (or wedding coordinator) will tell you that there are a number of factors that go into picking the perfect post-wedding getaway vehicle. Here are just a few points you should consider before booking your preferred method of travel:

Inquire About Package Deals. Many transportation companies offer “wedding packages,” though they don’t always advertise them outright. When you are calling around to different companies inquire about wedding or “red-carpet” deals. In most cases, larger transportation companies will provide your post-wedding wheels and give you the royal treatment as part of the package deal. For example, one company I called when I was planning my wedding offered a wedding package that included a real red carpet that the driver unrolled to the church door. As part of the package deal some companies will also make sure your limo is stocked your favorite romantic comedies, your favorite CDs and chilled champagne and caviar.

Think Outside The Limo. Who says you have to arrive at the reception in a stretch limo? When it comes to post wedding getaway vehicles the more creative the better. I’ve been to weddings where the bride and groom (along with the rest of the wedding party) were whisked away in a luxury trolley. If you are marrying a Hog-lover why not rent a Harley-Davidson with sidecar (just watch the dress). Or slip into something a little sportier like a fire-engine red Lamborghini or a silver BMW Z3 roadster. And what bride wouldn’t love to drive off in a classic white Rolls Royce or a stretch SUV. I once saw a couple on TLC’s “A Wedding Story” drive off in a green VW Beetle. How’s that for original?

Don’t Settle For Just One. With so many choices it may be hard to choose just one vehicle. If your budget allows it, you could consider renting two vehicles for the day. For example, if you can’t decide between the stretch Hummer and the horse-drawn carriage, choose one to transport you to the wedding and one to whisk you to the reception.
