Aiming For Faster Recoveries

If something goes wrong or awry in your home business, how long does it take you to bounce back? In the beginning stages of our businesses, it may take us a while to figure out what has gone wrong, do the research to come up with solutions, and implement “the fix.” However, as we grow and build our businesses, one of our goals can be to have speedier recoveries so that we can get things moving again quicker.

I think it helps that we learn from our mistakes. As we amass mistakes and “learning opportunities” in our home businesses, we actually have more to draw on in figuring out how to bounce back and recover. We make contacts that can help us, and set the groundwork with our current mistakes to help us make quicker recoveries in the future.

So what can we do to tangibly aim for quicker recoveries: identify problems faster and get down to the roots of what has gone wrong are some of the first things we can do. This means that we need to avoid wallowing in blame or shame or any of those other unproductive places and, instead, focus on identifying what has gone wrong at every level. It is only then that we can begin to search for solutions.

Secondly, bring in experts sooner. I think it is one of the big mistakes of the beginner to try to solve everything that goes wrong on our own. We put off consulting an expert for fear we will look stupid or not be able to afford it. Instead, think of it as an investment—the sooner you get the professional, experienced help you need, the sooner you will be able to get things back on track.

Finally, make sure that you actually learn from the mistakes! Keeping accurate records, making sure that you anticipate future problems, and putting preparations in place to avoid the same sorts of problems happening again are all ways to anticipate and prepare based on what we have learned from our current or past mistakes—and this will make for an even faster recovery the next time!
